    Description

    This is a very rare, vintage "Helmewappen" (front plate)
    for a "Pickelhaub" (spiked helmet) issued to the enlisted soldiers
    of the Line Regiments of Germany, during the First World War (1914-1918).
    It is made of TOMBAK, which is an alloy of copper and zinc.
    It measures 5 3/8 inches across;  4 3/8 inches top-to-bottom; and 3/4 inch deep.
    One of the two mounting loops from the backside is missing.
